And check out the first-ever American exhibition of art by Kim Chong Hak at The High Museum in Atlanta.
Heeeey KP! This issue is an exciting one for artists, art lovers and food lovers!
Calling all artists! We are getting ready to feature the best “comfort food art” in KP’s 2026 “Food is Love” Calendar. The calendar will showcase existing or commissioned art by multi-generational Komerican and immigrant artists…who love to eat! We all know food is a language of love and instantly builds community — both things we really need right now! Check out this post or the link below for more details. Our application takes only 5-10 minutes to be considered! The deadline to be considered is Wednesday, April 30, 2025!
Also, I’m excited to preview the work of master Korean artist Kim Chong Hak this Thursday before his eponymous exhibition opens in Atlanta April 11-November 2, 2025. So proud of the High Museum of Art for being the first institution to debut the Korean artist’s work in the United States! I’m feeling very extra as a Komerican living in Atlanta lately. Our Southern metropolis is truly becoming a beacon for Korean and Komerican culture! Scroll down for a feature on this illustrious artist!
P.S. Komerican Pie is on Spring Break next week! Issue 59 will be delivered on Tuesday, April 22nd with a relatable Immigrant Hustle: Mini Memoir!
Sweet & Salty: “Kim Chong Hak: Painter of Seoraksan” at The High Museum of Art

“Born in North Korea in 1937, Kim Chong Hak is an eminent figure in contemporary Korean art. Widely known as the ‘Painter of Seorak’, Kim evokes Mount Seorak—the third-highest mountain in Korea, situated in the east of the country — on his canvases with motifs from nature, such as flowers, insects, and weeds.” **
The artist’s solo and group exhibitions are too many to mention in its entirety — you can view them here. Solo show highlights include Kim Chong-Hak: Highlighting Contemporary Artist III at Busan Museum of Art, Busan in 2020; Carte blanche à Kim Chong Hak at Musée Guimet, Paris in 2018; A Key to Creation Exhibition at SeMA Nam Seoul Living Art Museum, Seoul in 2015 and a 2011 retrospective exhibition at The National Museum of Contemporary Art, Gwacheon, Korea. Follow Kim on IG @kimchonghak.official and revel in art making of this awesome 할아버지!
Going strong at 88 years young, Kim is an essential artist contributing to the long legacy of landscape painting in Korea and now — the world at large. Kim’s personal history reminds us members of the Korean diaspora that our country’s tumultuous history was not so long ago. His art reminds us of the healing and transformative power of nature and the centuries long Korean tradition of heading to sacred mountains to contemplate in the solitude in nature. The lifetime and timeline of Kim Chong Hak cements for us now the overwhelming cultural impact of Korean makers and artists all over the world.

Just four more days until Kim Chong Hak’s first-ever American exhibition opens at the High Museum of Art on Friday, April 11th! If I can take some good photos at the Exhibition preview, I will be sure to share them right here on KP. Holler at me if you head down South for this special exhibit!
